(WTNH) – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro will call on Congress to strengthen Social Security.
DeLauro will visit East Shore Senior Center in New Haven to talk about efforts to expand Social Security benefits.
The Congresswoman tells News 8 that expanding these benefits for current and future seniors will provide more economic security at a time when Americans are growing increasingly concerned about their retirement.
According to a recent report, Congress’s decision to cut the Social Security Administration’s operating budget by 10 percent since 2010 has resulted in the closure of two Connecticut field offices and a decrease of 10 percent of staff in the state.
These changes mean that workers and beneficiaries must wait longer to be served and have reduced access to essential services.
