New Haven firefighters investigating Chapel Street fire

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Haven firefighters are investigating a building fire on Chapel Street Tuesday afternoon.

Around 1:50 p.m., firefighters rushed to 1187 Chapel Street on reports of a building fire. Multiple engines and trucks were dispatched to the scene. Battalion Chief William Gould says there was a heavy fire in the second floor that was extending into the attic.

Around 2:00 p.m., the New Haven Fire Department posted a Periscope video on their Twitter account showing flames and smoke coming from the building. Firefighters were able to contain the flames to the second and third floor.

Just before 2:10 p.m., a second a alarm was sent out by New Haven firefighters. They searched the building and did not find anyone. There were no injuries in the fire.

At 2:25 p.m., New Haven firefighters on the scene told News 8 that the fire was out. The new Fire Chief, John Alston Jr., was at the fire. This was the first fire he’s worked at.
