ABC’s Jim Avila discusses Christopher Waide murder case

NEW YORK, (WTNH) — Tonight on ABC’s 20/20, the real-life story of a man who almost got away with murder.

In 2014, Christopher Waide murdered his 19-year-old girlfriend, and then went to extreme measures to cover up the crime, including hiding his girlfriend’s body, swabbing his apartment with bleach, and disposing of all DNA evidence.

Christopher’s former criminology professor, Robert Wells, believes the skills he learned in his criminology class allowed Christopher to cover up his crime. In a shocking turn of events he confessed to Lea’s brother, Maxx Porter.

Avila’s report tonight contains never-before-seen seen police interrogation videos, surveillance videos and crime scene photos, and includes interviews with Porter; Wells; Rene Jackson, Lea’s mother; Matt Calhoon, and Mike Lynch, Westminster Police Detectives; and more.

Watch Jim’s full report on 20/20, tonight at 10:00 p.m. on News 8.
