New study points to importance of daily activity

Walkabout yoga combines both yoga and hiking for an outdoor fitness adventure.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – Millions of Americans try to make it a point to get to the gym for a daily workout, but that strategy might not be the most effective when it comes to your overall health in a new study. The benefits of exercise is already known to be a key factor in reducing the risk of Type 2 Diabetes.

The Centers for Disease Control says your level of daily activity is of greater importance than making a quick daily trip to the gym.

So, doing things like taking the stairs instead of an elevator or parking a distance away from your job so you have to walk a few extra steps, can make a bigger difference in your long term health than you think. The CDC recommends 150 minutes of moderate activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity per week.
