Metro-North pushes monthly riders to buy tickets on app instead of website

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– Before you leave your house to catch the train, listen up! How you buy your ticket might be changing after Tuesday. It’s a move by Metro-North to get folks off their website and onto their App.

After Tuesday, no one will be able to buy Monthly Web Tickets on Metro-North. It’s all because they’re trying to get riders using their free mobile app MTA E-TIX. They just launched the app back in August. It allows you to buy them right on your smartphone.

You can buy a one-way, round trip, 10 pack, and monthly. Then you just show it on your phone once you get on the train. Of course this means you have to keep your phone charged.

If all of this is too high-tech for you or if you like using the machines, you can still buy them there.

All other tickets will stop being sold on the website on November 30th. So if you like avoiding the ticket stations, you may as well start using the app now to get used to it.
