OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. (WTNH) — Old Saybrook police have arrested five people after an attempted drug deal led to a police pursuit throughout the town.
On Tuesday, Old Saybrook police say a neighbor reported suspicious activity on Sherman Street and a house possibly being broken into. Police say when they got to the home, the suspects drove away, engaging police on a pursuit.
Police say the pursuit went through College Street, Saybrook Point, over the Causeway, Fenwood, Knollwood, Maple Ave and North Cove Landing and ended when the suspects drove between two condominiums at the end of North Cove Landing and into a backyard swamp area.
The reported suspicious activity on Sherman Street was found to be an attempted drug deal. Police arrested 33-year-old Michael Jervis, who lives in the Sherman Street home, and who they say was trying to buy heroin. He is charged with conspiracy to possess narcotics and criminal attempt to purchase narcotics.
Police also arrested four others. A 17-year-old juvenile, who was driving the car, a 17-year-old passenger, 18-year-old Nathaniel Gonzalez and 20-year-old Yanquee Rodriguez. All four are charged with possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and conspiracy to commit misrepresentation of a substance as a controlled substance.
The juvenile driver is also charged with engaging police in pursuit, unregistered motor vehicle, operating without insurance, operating without a license, possession of a stolen license plate and third-degree criminal mischief.
Police say no one was injured and there was only minor damage caused to lawns and gardens.
