Police identify victims in New Haven double shooting

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – New Haven police are trying to figure out who shot two men at the Hess Gas Station near the corner of Ferry and State Streets on Monday.

Police say the shooting happened at about 8 p.m. Detectives are hoping surveillance footage will lead them to the suspect.

Police have identified the victims as Akeem Witley, 25, of New Haven and Labian McKnight, 31, of New Haven. McKnight was last listed in critical condition. Witley suffered less serious injuries. Both are being treated at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Police say Witley was attempting to leave the scene when the Acura TSX he was driving crashed into a van on the bridge. The van driver was not injured.

Police have recovered two handguns, one on the bridge near where Witley was found and the other at the gas station booth where McKnight was found.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting is asked to call the New Haven Police Department at (203) 946-6304.
