HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– Bloomfield police are investigating after a sexual assault was reported near the University of Hartford‘s main campus, early Sunday.
Police say officers responded to a party at 15 Ashley Court around 12:30 a.m. to the report of a sexual assault.
Officers say the victim stated that while attending the party, the victim had been forced to engage in sexual activity with another attendee. Police say the victim was hysterical during their verbal account to the officers on scene, but did identify the suspect.
The suspect was located at the party and was cooperative with the investigation. The suspect also gave a sworn statement to officers indicating that the encounter was consensual.
An investigation revealed that a mutual friend of the victim and suspect walked in on them in the house’s main floor bathroom, interrupting the sexual activity.
The victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment and an evaluation. The incident remains under investigation.
The University of Hartford released a statement to the school’s community informing them of the reported sexual assault that occurred near the campus over the weekend.
The university wrote in part:
At this time, the Department of Public Safety wants to remind the campus community about the availability of information designed to help keep our community members safe, including information around sexual misconduct including rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, and intimate partner violence, as well as how to report such incidents, available services, and tips on how to try to prevent these crimes.”
The university says reports can be made confidentially and that there are services available for both on and off campus.
