101-Year-Old Veteran to Break Rowing World Record

DARIEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Pearl Harbor and Coast Guard veteran Sid Zacharais will break the Concept 2 indoor rowing world record today. The 101-year-old is aided by Olympic rowing coach John Pescatore who will also be instructing the Atria Darien Veteran Rowing Team who will also look to break a world record as well.

Pescatore was an Olympic rower who competed in the 1988 and 1992 Olympics and most recently served as the Yale Men’s Heavyweight Crew from 2002 to 2010. Before coming to Yale, he was an Olympic rowing coach for the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney, Australia.

Zacharais and the Altria Darien Veteran Rowing Team will be going for the world records today at 3 p.m. on 50 Ledge Road.
