Gas leak in Vernon affects hundreds of customers


VERNON, Conn. (WTNH) – A construction crew hit a line causing a gas leak around 9 a.m. Friday on Merline Road near route 30.

Eversource said 141 of their customers including residential and businesses were affected because gas service was cut. Eversource said it is unknown at this time when the service will be restored and how long it will take.

Vernon Police said Merline road is closed and could take up to 12 hours to repair. The gas restoration process is expected to begin at 3:00 p.m.

Police said the gas company was on scene along with the fire department and police.

Police said there were no evacuations that occurred and the scene is under control.
