NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Britain Firefighters worked to put out a fire in a 3-story apartment building Friday night.

Fire officials say they responded to the fire at 18 Farmington Avenue just before 10:15 p.m. Friday. The apartment building, a 3-story, 12-unit apartment building, was heavily damaged on the first floor.

Everyone in the building made it out before the fire department arrived, but officials say one adult jumped from a window and was treated at a local hospital. Fourteen people, 10 adults and four children, were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting all of them.

“Immediate activation of a Second Alarm and aggressive firefighting by fire companies prevented a much larger loss than occurred. Firefighters did an excellent job bringing this fire under control”, stated Fire Chief Thomas Ronalter.

The fire is under investigation.
