EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — East Haven police are warning residents of an apparent scam.

Police say they received three complaints of this scam on Friday. All three complainants told police they got a phone call from the number (203)290-2629 of a man identifying himself as Lieutenant Frank Rogers of the New Haven County Sheriff’s Department.

In all cases, the man on the phone told the complainants they had missed jury duty and that a bench warrant was placed out for their arrest. The individual then told the people to go to Walgreens or CVS to get four $500 money orders and meet him at 55 Renshaw Drive in Hamden to make the payment.

Police want residents to be aware of this scam. If you receive a call like this, take note of the phone number and call police.
