COVENTRY, Conn. (WTNH)– A dentist who is also a veteran is combining both of his passions to help the troops and teeth with a candy buy-back.
“So there’s a little bit of an incentive for them I hope,” said Jenkins Dental Dr. Damon Jenkins.
He knows the impact of receiving mail while serving overseas. He served in 2007 and 2008.
“The gift packages were nice to get because you’re out there and it’s good to know people are thinking about you,” said
That’s why he’s asking kids to collect their candy, bring it to his office, and he’ll buy it back for 2 dollars a pound for up to 10 pounds. Plus, each child will get a goodie bag filled with toothpaste, floss, and a toothbrush. The bags will also get packed with the candy and they’ll be shipped to military men and women serving overseas, their families here at home, and veterans. It’s all for Operation Gratitude. So far, the group as sent 2 million care packages to American military across the world.
Jenkins said, “One of the things that they pride themselves is allowing civilians to feel like they contributed something.”
There are other candy buy-backs to benefit the troops happening across the state including New haven, Milford, and Madison.
