UNCASVILLE, Conn. (WTNH)–At Mohegan Sun casino, there’s no shortage of customers.
There has been however, a shortage of places to put them.
“We are getting more recognition that people want to come from various places to come see us – and that’s putting strain on our limited resource which is our hotel rooms,” said Ray Pineault – President and General Manager, Mohegan Sun.
Since 2014, it’s estimated that the casino has turned away close to 1-million hotel rooms from lack of availability.
It’s like leaving money on the table.
Soon, the new 400 room “Earth” hotel will open.
It’s set to be a major asset for one of the state’s biggest attractions.
“From our perspective this the premier spot in the state of Connecticut,” said Bob Gervasini of AZ Corporation.
The construction process involved connecting the entire casino campus.
Rooms feature the latest in smart technology, like iPads.
“Eventually they will give you access to room service menu, allow you to control temp in the room,” said Gervasini.
Over 1,000 construction and permanent jobs have been created or retained because of the hotel.
Those with the Mohegan tribe are not stopping there.
Even more additions are expected to be announced within months.
The hope is to put Mohegan Sun, and Connecticut on the map as a vacation destination.
“Our vision is that this is going to compete with any resort operation in the world. That when you think about vacation. Where you want to spend multiple days and go visit for a while – that Mohegan Sun is on your list – we are competing with guests around the united states, no doubt about it,” said Pineault.
