(WTNH) — A local woman reached out to News 8 for help after her father’s ashes were lost as she moved from Connecticut to Florida. After our story initially aired, the ashes were located, and her family can find closure knowing the ashes have been found.
Liz Clark works at Sikorsky Aircraft, and was recently transferred down to Florida. She says when the moving company delivered her belongings, her father’s ashes were missing.
“I had boxes missing, I had things I was trying to hurry up and get because I had my father’s ashes in there in an urn” Clark said. “I wanted to take some of the ashes out because I bought charms for all the grandkids to have, so I was going to put some of the ashes in there and give them to each one of the grandkids.”
She says the boxes were smashed and crumpled, and some looked like an accordion when they were delivered. She checked her paperwork against what was delivered ,and she says in all, 10 boxes are missing.
“I want it located, I don’t know where it is. I could care less about the furniture and all that stuff I have to redo it anyway, but my urn,” she said.
News 8 called down to New Jersey where the moving company is located, to get their side of the story. They said Clark packed her own boxes, they just delivered them, and they did deliver all of the boxes to her in Florida. They didn’t know an urn was inside, they said the urn shouldn’t have been in there because it doesn’t meet their shipping specifications. They told her to file a claim.
“How can I put a claim in on my father’s remains? How can I put a claim on that?” Clark said.
Clark says a lot of other things are missing, including a television.
After our initial story aired, News 8 was contacted by another Connecticut couple, who sent us a photo of the urn. It turned out that boxes were sent to the other Connecticut couple by mistake, including the box that contained the ashes.
News 8 spoke with Clark live after the discovery, and she expressed how she felt once the discovery had been made.
Oh my God, it’s great. It’s been how long, and I can’t believe somebody else has it.”
Clark and the other Connecticut couple have been put in contact with one another, and have made arrangements to get the ashes safely back to Clark, among other items she thought were lost.
