Child and two others seriously injured in Gold Star Highway crash

GROTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Groton Town Police say a child was critically injured, and two others were seriously injured, in a crash on Gold Star Highway late on Monday afternoon.

At 5:19 p.m. on Monday, officers with the Groton Town Police Department were dispatched to the Gold Star Highway between Packer and Welles Road, along with members of the Old Mystic Fire Department, Mystic River Ambulance, and medics from Lawrence+Memorial Hospital.

One driver, of the car traveling eastbound, sustained minor injuries and was treated on-scene. Police say that the three occupants of the car traveling westbound were transported to Lawrence+Memorial Hospital in New London. Two sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. The third occupant, a child, was critically injured, and had to be flown by Life Star from L+M to Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven.

Groton Town Police say that the accident is under investigation by the department’s accident reconstruction team, as well as the Ledyard Police Department. Anyone with any relevant information is asked to contact Groton Town Police at (860) 441-6712.
