MONTVILLE, Conn. (WTNH) — You can’t miss the huge 1,500 gallon tank which now sits on Marilyn Kurpiewski’s front lawn. A black hose connects the white tank to her house.

In August, her shallow dug well went dry. She even had the fire department come fill it up but the water just seeped back into the ground. That’s why she’s now renting the tank from a local water company.

“That’s great it’s been good but yet we’re still very conservative,” says Kurpiewski. “We go to the laundromat.”drought wells montville 2 Dry wells force families to take desperate measures

She also stopped watering her garden and never lets the faucets just run.

“It’s put a financial burden on myself and anyone else who’s in this predicament,” says Kurpiewski.

“We try to conserve because we’re worried about running out,” says George Grimes in nearby East Lyme.drought wells montville 4 Dry wells force families to take desperate measures

He hasn’t run out of water yet but he’s been close. “Our well is getting really low and our pump works a lot harder,” says Grimes.

A deeper well will soon be drilled on the Montville property. Until then she has her tank.
