Pregnant manatee returned to Florida waters following rehab at Mystic Aquarium

MYSTIC, Conn. (WTNH) — Washburn, the pregnant manatee, is back home in the coastal waters of Florida. The sea cow spent nearly a month getting treatment at Mystic Aquarium after she was discovered in water off Cape Cod. Mystic Aquarium’s Janelle Schuh was on hand as Washburn was released back into the water at River Breeze Park in Oak Hill, Florida. Schuh says, “it was incredible to be part of this huge collaborative effort that resulted in an endangered species being released into the wild in time to have her calf.”

It was the first time that Mystic Aquarium has cared for a manatee. The veterinary staff determined Washburn was pregnant back in September.
