WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Police arrested a man and woman for having drugs, a loaded gun, and thousands of dollars in cash in their car after officers pulled them over in West Hartford.
According to officials, officers pulled the suspects over on Flatbush and Newfield Avenues just after noon on Tuesday. Officers smelled the odor of burnt marijuana and the driver, 28 year-old Barbara Rodriguez, admitted to having a blunt with marijuana.
When officers asked the backseat passenger, 23 year-old Jimmy Gonzalez, to get out of the car, they spotted the handle of a handgun sticking out from his waistband, and not in a holster, police said. Gonzalez was taken to the ground and handcuffed, and that’s when police say the gun came out and fell on the ground.
All three people in the car were detained, but the third person was released on scene. Inside the car, police found nearly $3,000 in cash, 39 bags of crack cocaine (12.2 grams), and nearly 5 grams of marijuana.
Both Gonzalez and Rodriguez were arrested face several charges. Gonzalez was held on $250,000 bond. Rodriguez was released after posting $15,000 bond.
