HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) – Hamden Police say they arrested a shoplifter who beat up a Home Depot employee, while he was trying steal more than $1,000 in flooring materials. Around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, police got a call to the Home Depot on Dixwell Avenue. They say Thyshawn Wellesley, 30, of Hamden was trying to leave the store with $1,158.28 worth of flooring supplies. When the store security guard walked up police say Wellesley choked him and slammed his head on the concrete floor. The guard was able to hold Wellesley until police got there. Police say the guard has injuries to his head, neck and chest. Wellesley is charged with Robbery in the 3rd Degree, Strangulation in the 3rd Degree, Larceny, and Breach of Peace.
