Five cars catch fire early Sunday morning in Ellington

ELLINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Firefighters and State police are investigating what caused several cars to catch on fire Sunday morning.

The fire department said five cars are damaged after catching fire around 2:45 a.m. outside of a home at 12 Westview Terrace. Police said it is unknown at this time how many cars were intentionally set on fire.

According to police they are treating this as a suspected arson.

Police said It’s not uncommon for one vehicle to be set on fire and the flames from that initial fire set other vehicles on fire or cause damage to surrounding items that don’t actually catch fire.

Ellington fire department said it could’ve spread to the house but it was extinguished beforehand.

Police said people were home but there are no injuries.
