WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)- A West Haven Police Officer was injured while arresting a suspect on Sunday for a domestic dispute. Police say 31-year-old Garrett Stearns was charged with carrying a weapon, interfering with police, interfering with an emergency call, assault on police and disorderly conduct.
Police say they were called to Elizabeth Street for a domestic dispute, where Stearns had allegedly punched holes in the walls and broke mirrors. Police originally handcuffed him, but then took the handcuffs off so he could be treated for those injuries. Police say that’s when Stearns started fighting with officers, and a steak knife was found in Stearns’ pants. Police say one officer seriously injured his leg, and had to be treated in an area hospital and released.
Stearns is being held on $100,000 bond.
