Big gains for Republicans in the State House and Senate

ANSONIA, Conn. (WTNH) — A good night for State Republicans. They had set their eyes on making gains in the State House and Senate and they did.

At the Branford Republican Town Committee Watch Party, party officials were closely monitoring returns especially in the State Senate races. Four was the magic number for Republicans there. That’s the number of seats they needed to gain in order to take control of the Senate and as of tonight they had won three new seats and were waiting to hear on a fourth.

This, even as the state went Blue for Hillary Clinton.

“The Republicans made gains in the State House too. They were up 7 seats. If they had won 12 seats, they would have gained control of the State House.,” said State Republican Party Chairman JR Romano.
