Big tobacco bust nets Trumbull man

TRUMBULL, Conn. (WTNH) — A Trumbull Connecticut man was caught in a big tobacco bust.

State police said Kalel Easa has been charged with possession or sale of untaxed cigarettes and tobacco products.

According to police, Easa had $53,000 in cash and about 500 cartons of cigarettes in his possession.

“The trafficking of cigarettes originating from low-tax states down south to the Northeast is not only an ongoing problem and illegal,” said State Commissioner Kevin B. Sullivan, “it robs Connecticut of needed tax revenue and puts the stores who are doing the right thing at an unfair disadvantage.”

State police said more arrests are expected.

Easa has been released on a $20,000 bond and is due back in court on November 22.
