New Haven Firefighters battle 2nd alarm fire

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Haven Firefighters responded to a fire on Harding Place Friday evening.

Fire officials were called to 18 Harding Place around 5:45 p.m. Friday for a fire in a three-story home. There were eight adults and five children inside the home and all made it out safe.

A second alarm was transmittedat 5:52 p.m. after much of the third floor was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters were able to put out the flames and keep the fire from spreading to the homes on the other side. New Haven Police Media Liaison David Hartman says one firefighter was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for chest-pains and a police Sergeant was treated on scene for smoke inhalation.

According to a News 8 viewer, the fire could be seen through the trees in a nearby neighborhood.

The American Red Cross is helping provide shelter to the families affected.

Police say Harding Place will remain closed to traffic for a few hours.
