Young girl hides during Meriden burglary

MERIDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A young girl hid and quickly called for help as a burglar broke into her home in Meriden Friday.

Meriden police tell News 8 that a 13-year-old girl was inside of her home on Liberty Street Friday morning when the burglar gained entry into the house. Officers believe that the thief assumed that the home was empty for the day.

Upon hearing the burglar breaking into the house, the young girl hid and called 9-1-1 for help. Upon hearing the girl talking with the 9-1-1 operator, the suspect ran out the back door and fled from the scene.

According to police, the girl was not hurt. There was no violence or weapons used or shown. Police are continuing their investigation.
