Branford police investigate “accidental” shooting

BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — E-911 Telecommunicators of the Branford Police received a call early Saturday morning regarding a person that was injured by a gunshot that took place in the parking lot of a popular restaurant in Branford.

Police Detectives are investigating the incident that they believe to be an “accidental” shooting.

The telecommunicator had the operator of the vehicle stop in East Haven were paramedics began immediate medical treatment.

Lieutenant John Alves said officers were able to interview the victim as well as other witnesses, who allegedly stated that the shooting took place at 624 West Main Street, Eli’s On the Hill, in the rear parking lot.

Detective Lieutenant John Finkle stated that the detectives who are investigating the case were able to discover that Stephen Kasperzyk 24, of East Haven, was with two of his friends when the incident occurred. Allegedly police report that one of Kasperzyk’s friends was attempting to hand him a handgun that had been stored in the vehicle. While the weapon was being exchanged, the weapon discharged and Kasperzyk was shot in the shoulder.

No charges have been filed and the shooting is under further investigation.
