(WTNH) –Everyone remembers those breakout holiday season toys like Tickle Me Elmo, Furby, Tamagotchi. This year, the hot toy is Hatchimals. Since our story aired Tuesday on News 8, we had an outpouring of comments and questions ranging from where can I find it? To – what is it?
Hatchimals are made by the company Spinmaster. They are an owl or penguin-like creature that hatches, grows up and eventually learns to walk, talk and play games as a child plays with and cares for it.
Prices are climbing on Amazon and eBay. We found that one seller on eBay listed a Hatchimal for $60,000. Hatchimals retail in stores for just under $50, but today’s online check of big box stores showed, once again, the toys are out of stock.
Many of our viewers have weighed in with stories of their search for Hatchimals on our Facebook page.
“Waited in line yesterday for Target to open and was able to get one of the 7 they got in. Target seems to be the store that gets daily shipments … have to check their website at 6 am … see which stores have “limited quantity” and then drive there and wait in line to get a ticket to get one … for the regular price,” said Allison Ondy.
Evelyn Janikula paid more than retail for her two Hatchimals, but less than other online prices.
“Had to buy mine on Offer Up paid $200 for 2 Hatchimals,” said Janikula.
“Walmart said yesterday that they will have these back on the shelf as of 6 o’clock Thanksgiving night,” said Caren Brooks.
In fact, Walmart confirmed to News 8 that it will have Hatchimals for $48.88 as part of its Black Friday sales. Those sales really start on Thursday. Online, the sale starts a minute after midnight on Thanksgiving morning. In stores, the sale starts at 6:00 Thanksgiving evening.
Also, we found a site that tracks many of the big box stores online inventory for shipping. It’s called Nowinstock.net. It will post when stores like Target, Walmart and Toys “R” Us have Hatchimals in stock to ship. The site can also send you alerts.
Good luck with your search and keep us posted!
