ORANGE, Conn. (WTNH)– Joe Tirollo with J&M Landscaping in Orange is getting firewood ready for customers before the winter.

firewoodHe says you want to burn hard wood not softwood. Tirollo recommends burning cherry, oak, birch or ash. The wood is delivered in cords. Tirollo said make sure pieces of softwood don’t end up in the pile.

“If you get a big pile dumped it might be in the middle and you might not see,” said Tirollo.

“You’re not going to feel as much heat and it’s gonna do a lot more popping a lot of woods pop but pine really pops a lot and it’s going to smoke a lot,” said Tirollo.

Tirollo said not many people know what a cord of wood is so make sure you’re getting what you pay for.

“When you stack it, it’s gonna be 4 feet high, 4 feet wide and 8 feet long. You really gotta find a good wood supplier and stick with them,” said Tirollo.
