Study: Cooler room is better for your health

(WTNH) – According to a study published on simplepost.com, science says sleeping in a cold room is better for your health.

Dr. Christopher Winter, Medical Director at Charlottesville Neurology & Sleep Medicine found your bedroom should be between 60 to 67 degrees Fahrenheit for optimal sleep.

Temperatures above 75 degrees and below 54 degrees can disrupt sleep. There are benefits to sleeping in a cooler environment:

  • Fall asleep quicker
  • Getting a better night’s sleep
  • Look more youthful
  • Decrease your risk for certain metabolic diseases like diabetes

Here are ways to help keep cool:

  • Freeze your top sheet and put it on right before bedtime
  • Use a fan to circulate air around the room
  • Purchase a cooling pillow to help naturally draw the heat away
  • Stick one or both feet out from under the covers
