Promoting literacy in East Haven

EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Over 80 kindergartners in East Haven got a chance to visit the town library Friday morning. It was all part of a town-wide reading challenge to promote literacy.

“We have children who can join the 100 Book Club. Once they read over 100 books, they are recognized with a photo on the school bulletin board and we challenge the families to read another 100 [books.] So we’re trying to get the kids reading as much as possible,” said East Haven teacher Cynthia Coppola.

That 100 book reading challenge is an annual event in East Haven.
