Police search for suspect in New Haven shooting

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– Police are investigating after a 23-year-old man was found shot on a sidewalk in New Haven Saturday night.

Police say just before 10 p.m., an officer patrolling Whalley Avenue, near lower Blake Street, heard gunfire in the area. When the officer turned the corner on to Blake Street, he saw the shooting victim on the sidewalk.

The victim, later identified as Shane Daquan Dunkley-Rountree, of Hamden, had been shot in the leg. He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening wound.

Police are still looking for the shooter, who fled the scene in a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix. The shooter was described as heavy-set.

Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or who has any information is urged to contact police at 203-946-6304.
