One arrested in New Haven stabbing

New Haven, Conn. (WTNH)- New Haven police say one man is under arrest for a stabbing that left a Hamden man injured on Monday afternoon.

Shortly after one o’clock in the afternoon, an off-duty New Haven police officer saw some men fighting in the area of Columbus Avenue and White Street. When the officer got closer, he noticed that one of the men was bleeding heavily through his shirt. When one of the men ran from the scene, the officer chased him, eventually catching up to him in front of the Salvation Church on Arch Street.

The man, later identified as 50 year old William George Preston of New Haven, was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon but not assault. The injured man, Jerry Pierre-Louis of Hamden is now in a hospital in serious but stable condition.
