HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Prosecutors have dropped sex trafficking-related charges against a Windsor man due to a lack of evidence.
Dwayne Hairston and another man were arrested in January on drug and sex trafficking charges. Authorities alleged at the time that the men kidnapped an 18-year-old woman and forced her into prostitution and heroin use.
The Journal Inquirer (http://bit.ly/2gh5QNR ) reports that the 32-year-old Hairston pleaded guilty to the drug charge on Tuesday and was sentenced to time served and probation.
But prosecutors say there was no evidence to corroborate the teenager’s allegation that Hairston forced her into prostitution. Also, she used heroin before she met him, and even though she lived with Hairston for a time, she was seen coming and going from their apartment.
Hairston’s court-appointed attorney says her client always maintained his innocence.
