Cyber Monday buying tricks and traps

(WTNH)– Cyber Monday is one of the busiest discount shopping days of the year. It’s also a very busy marketing day. Retailers alert shoppers of discounts via email and social media.

An online shopper said, “I have emails from Amazon, from, Groupon, Best Buy. I’m just gonna click on those. Do my shopping from there.”

To get the best deals clear your browser history so you’ll see only the lowest prices. And leave items in your cart. Many retailers will email you additional discounts to sweeten the deal. Experts say retailers can also see you are coming back to the site to look at an item which is another reason to delete browser history.

Friday was the busiest day so far with online sales shattering records up 22% from last year, topping $3 billion and bringing the two day tally to more than $5 billion.

Retailers are offering big deals on appliances like a juicer, $100 off on Amazon. Banana Republic and Gap are offering 50% off clothes. JCrew and Old Navy offering 40% off. At Target the sale is 15% off everything.

News 8 checked with the Better Business Bureau. Experts say look for the website’s terms and conditions the fine print contains crucial information, such as any exclusions, and information about return/exchange policies. These should be prominent on sellers’ websites.
