NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) It’s officially December which means the biggest shopping month of the year is here! News 8 is helping you stretch your dollar with secrets to saving this time of year. We talked to an expert couponer who is always working to stretch her dollar just a little further.

There are deals and doorbusters going on all month long. It is the time to buy, but as your shopping list grows longer – the deals aren’t always enough. It’s why expert couponer and blogger Nicole LaFrance, says it’s so important to stack coupons, on top of store rewards and other deals on everyday items.

“Toilet paper, paper towels, toothpaste. These are all things I’m getting for practically nothing. So that money that I’m saving, I can then shift it for other things I need like my Christmas shopping,” she said.

As you map out where the sales are, it’s not always a good idea to hop around stores. It’s not only expensive in gas, you’ll get lured into more impulse buys. Instead, get one store to price match all the others.

“A number of the major dealers will do pricematching. Best Buy does it, Toys R Us does it, a Target does it, some Walmarts will do it, they’re kind of on the fence now,” LaFrance added.

If you need more help saving sites like “Yes We Coupon” can help. It helps track down deals and coupon codes and gives you inexpensive ideas for those people you still don’t know what to get.

It’s still early in the season. If you know what you want to buy but it’s not on sale anywhere, set a pricetracker on it so you know when the price comes down somewhere.
