Working for Connecticut: Luke’s Toy Factory in Danbury

(WTNH)–The saying goes, “They don’t make ’em like they used to.” But, don’t tell that to the folks at Luke’s Toy Factory in Danbury. When it comes to “Made in the USA,” they’re not messing around.

James Barber, the managing partner of Luke’s Toy Facotry, says the idea behind the toys made at the factory is for kids to use their imagination.

“What sound does a firetruck make? Well, you have to make that yourself. How does it go? Where does it go? What do you do with it? You have to make up the scenario. It’s what is called in learning, ‘imaginative play,” he said.

Luke Barber designs and assembles toys at the factory.

“When I’m done with a design, there’s something there that’s ready to be tested, and I’m often surprised at the different ways children play with it,” he said. “They come up with all kinds of crazy, different combinations.”
