Hartford man killed trying to cross Interstate 84


EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A 49-year-old man from Hartford was killed after trying to cross I-84 in East Hartford on Thursday night.

Connecticut State Police responded to I-84 in East Hartford around 7:50 p.m. on Thursday night. They say that 49-year-old Bryan Nagel had attempted to cross westbound lanes, north to south, just under a half a mile east of exit 51. He was struck by 61-year-old driver from Burlington, Kari Ostvik, who was traveling in a Subaru Outback in the leftmost of four lanes.

Nagel, who lived in Hartford, succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

Police say that westbound lanes in the area were closed for about two hours.
