Person fatally struck on Route 5 in Enfield

ENFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — Enfield police are investigating after a 20-year-old was fatally struck by a car on Route 5 early Friday morning.

Just after 1:00 a.m., police say the 20-year-old, who has not yet been identified, was skateboarding on Route 5 in the vicinity of Orlando Drive when they were struck by a car. The car fled from the scene.

It is unclear if the victim died at the scene, or shortly thereafter. Officers said the vehicle is evading, and they are treating this investigation as a hit-and-run.

Route 5 was closed between Orlando Drive and Meadowlark Road for several hours while police conducted their initial investigation. The road has since reopened.

No description of the vehicle is available yet. Additional details about the victim will be released after police confirm the person’s identity and contact next of kin.
