Stolen Car Crashes After Officer Attempts to Pull It Over

DANBURY, Conn. (WTNH)- Two people are recovering after a rollover car accident and police say the car they were in was stolen, and police had been trying to pull the car over. The accident happened on Mountainville Road on December 1st around 10:40AM. Police say 32-year-old Ricardo Andre was driving with a passenger when he left the road, hit a State Traffic Commisison sign and utility pole before rolling over and finally coming to a stop at the top of someone’s driveway.

Police say both Andre and his passenger were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The passenger’s name has not yet been released.

Police say Andre was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer, which had been reported stolen. Police say before the crash, a police officer working construction saw the car, and recognized it as stolen, so the officer tried to pull the car over. Police say Andre would not pull over, and eventually crashed.

State Police have now taken over the investigation. Police say it is an on-going investigation.
