K-9 Thor Memorial T-Shirt to Benefit Wethersfield, CT Police K9 Unit

WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) – Police K-9 Thor died in late November from injuries he got chasing a kidnapping suspect through a wooded area. The German Shepard had been serving his community alongside Wethersfield Officer Nuno Martins for two years. Now a memorial t-shirt designed to honor Thor will be on sell starting on December 8th, 2016 and all profits will be donated to the Wethersfield Police Department K-9 Unit.

A memorial will be held on December 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wethersfield Community Center, located at 30 Greenfield Street. T-shirts can be purchases at the Memorial Service. They are also available online. Orders will be taken until December 23rd, 2016 and shipping will begin right after Christmas.

The man Thor was chasing, 20 year old Chauncey Smith of Hartford, was later arrested.

Police were originally called to a motel for a report of a woman being held against her will by her boyfriend. She had a protective order against Chauncey Smith. When police got there, he took off and K-9 Officer Thor followed.

Smith is charged with interfering with police and violation of a protective order. Police say he has not been charged for the death of Thor because that investigation is ongoing.
