New Haven Police Assistant Chief being investigated for ‘verbal interaction’ with officer

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — One of the New Haven Police Assistant Chiefs is being investigated by the department after a recent verbal interaction between the Assistant Chief and a patrol officer.

New Haven Public Information Officer David Hartman confirmed to News 8 that Assistant Chief Luiz Casanova is being investigated by Interim Chief Anthony Campbell for what Hartman described as a “verbal interaction” between Casanova and a patrol officer.

According to Hartman, initial reports of a racial component related to this interaction is incorrect. However, News 8 has heard from several sources within the New Haven Police Department that claim the incident was racially charged.

News 8 has reached out to New Haven Mayor Toni Harp‘s office, but have not yet heard back the Mayor regarding this issue.
