School bus crash closes road in Haddam

HADDAM, Conn. (WTNH)– Three people were taken to the hospital after a school bus collided with an SUV on Route 81 in Haddam Wednesday morning.

Police say an SUV and a short school bus crashed head on after the SUV veered off the northbound side and on to the other lane just after 7 a.m.

The driver of the school bus was taken to Middlesex Hospital for a possible broken foot. The driver and passenger of the SUV were also taken to Middlesex Hospital for observation. The driver of the SUV told police he had dozed off before the crash.

Route 81, also known as Killingworth Road, was closed in both directions near Brault Hill Road for the investigation.

Both vehicles obtained heavy front end damage. The driver of the SUV was issued a ticket for failing to drive to the right.
