New Haven assistant police chief suspended after altercation with officer

(WTNH)–Interim New Haven police chief Anthony Campbell has ordered assistant chief Luiz Casanova be suspended for one day without pay after an investigation into a verbal altercation between Casanova and a patrol officer last week.

According to police, Casanova used “inappropriate language” toward a patrol officer. Sources told News 8 that he used a racial slur in that argument.

Casanova must serve the one-day suspension before the end of this year.

The suspension was categorized as “conduct unbecoming of an officer.”
