NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — From the snowy, slushy conditions you woke up to Monday to the bitterly cold temperatures today, you may now be thinking warm thoughts. News 8 talked to insiders to help you stretch your dollar on an inexpensive getaway.

We talked to a travel expert who told us where in the U.S. people are finding getaway deals right now.

“This holiday seasons top destinations include Las Vegas, Orlando, Las Angeles, New York and San Diego,” said Justine McDonald, a Cheap Tickets spokeswoman.

If you’re looking to travel for the holiday, McDonald said December 23rd is the cheapest day to fly. She said whenever you’re looking to travel, make sure you look for promo codes to save.

“During the holiday season travel companies are offering all sorts of deals to get you to book with them. On right now we have a hotel promo code that will save you an extra 16%. That’s snowflake and it’s good through December 18th,” she said.

Another way to save, specify you want to look at three star hotels rather than the high end hotels. They have great amenities and will free up money for you can use on other parts of the trip.

If you are looking to fly, here’s a tip. Make sure you calculate the “all-in” price. Some airlines do have an additional fee for a checked bag or carry-on bag, keep that in consideration when choosing the flight that’s good for you.
