Armed man safely taken into custody by West Haven police

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– West Haven police have successfully taken an armed man into custody after he was found in an abandoned building Wednesday.

Just after 12:00 noon, West Haven police responded to to abandoned Armstrong Rubber Building on Saw Mill Road, close to the West Haven train station. Officers had received reports that a man with a gun had entered the abandoned building.

Around 1:00 p.m. posted on their Facebook page that they were on the scene of an incident involving police activity. Police and SWAT teams shut down Saw Mill Road, from Railroad Avenue to Elm Street.

Officers spoke with News 8 around 2:10 p.m., and indicated that the situation was under control. The armed man had been taken into custody without incident. No one was hurt.

Police are still conducting their investigation. They have not released the identity of the armed man, or what charges he may face.

The roads were reopened to the public by 2:20 p.m.
