A cloud of thick black smoke could be seen from Interstate 95. Bridgeport Fire Chief Thode tells News 8 that three ladder trucks and a fire boat are onsite working to extinguish the fire.

As this is an old vacant building, no firefighters will be entering the interior for reasons of safety.

It is unclear what may have started the fire. Once the hot spots are out, discussions regarding emergency demolition will take place.
