Floridians attempt to return home after Irma

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WTNH) — As people clear security at Bradley International Airport to return home to the south, they are unsure of what they will find.

Steve Boyd lives in Texas and said, “It was devastating down there, we can’t feel sorry for ourselves because we just got a little rain from it.”

Marga Teichman is flying from Connecticut to her home in South Carolina. “I think I might find my house maybe without power but that’s okay, it’ll be there,” she stated.

Danielle Reineke attends the University of Tampa. They were evacuated with short notice the only flight she could get out was to visit her grandmother in Connecticut. She’s been watching the news and the videos of her hometown and fears the worst as she tries to get back.

“I talked to one of my friends who stayed there, and they said there’s a lot of water,” she explained.

As Danielle makes her way to security and onto the flight, she thanks about all of the things she left behind in her dorm room during her rushed evacuation.

“I live on the second floor in my dorm and it’s not that tall up,” she said. “…I am scared to see what it’s going to be like.”

Because some airports sustained heavy damage, they may be closed a while and you might want to book to an airport a few hours away, and take a bus in. That might be your fastest way home.
