NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — WTNH News 8 announced Monday that renowned Connecticut Meteorologist Joe Furey will be joining Storm Team 8; a hiring that bolsters the state’s most experienced and respected television meteorology team just in time for the inclement weather season.
Furey will become Co-Chief Meteorologist, and will begin at News 8 on October 2.

With the scale of recent storms this hurricane season and with winter weather around the corner, Joe’s experience complements Storm Team 8’s commitment to keeping our viewers informed and safe. Connecticut has grown up with Joe. He is a trusted staple in the community; he’s Connecticut’s own – Joe.”

A Connecticut shoreline native, who has spent more than 30 years in broadcasting in Connecticut, Furey was mentored early in his career at the Western Connecticut State Weather Service by the legendary Dr. Mel Goldstein, who spent many years as Chief Meteorologist at WTNH before his passing in 2012.

“With our new lineup from morning to night 7 days a week, Storm Team 8 offers the deepest pool of meteorological experience in the state,” WTNH News Director Keith Connors said. “We already had the top weather team. Joe Furey makes us that much better.”
In addition to his on-air duties, Furey says he greatly looks forward to being deeply involved in WTNH’s many community partnerships, something he has been passionate about throughout his entire career.
