Police in Orange apprehend boy in possession of handgun near elementary school

ORANGE, Conn. (WTNH) — Police in Orange apprehended a boy in possession of a loaded handgun near an elementary school on Monday.

According to police, a call came in around 8:20 a.m. regarding a distraught juvenile male with a gun near Turkey Hill Elementary School.

Officials placed the school in lock-down as a safety precaution while police apprehended the boy who surrendered to nearby responding officers.

The boy was then transported to a local hospital for evaluation and the lock-down was lifted after about 20 minutes.

Officials are continuing to investigate the incident.

Police say at no time were students or staff at the school in danger.
